Es gibt Horrorszenarien; die das Aussterben von Kleinstauml;dten und Douml;rfern voraussagen. Neben dem Wegzug vor allem junger Menschen wird auch die niedrige Geburtenrate als Grund ins Feld gefuuml;hrt. So wird schon von einem Mauml;nneruuml;berschuss geschrieben. Dem liegt eine Studie des Berlin-Instituts fuuml;r Bevouml;lkerung und Entwicklung zu Grunde. Unter dem Titel bdquo;Not am Mannldquo; kommen die Autoren zu dem Schluss: bdquo;Durch die selektive Abwanderung von jungen Frauen ist in den neuen Bundeslauml;ndern vielerorts eine sehr ungewouml;hnliche Geschlechterverteilung entstanden.ldquo; Betrachtet man allein die Entwicklung der Bevouml;lkerungszahl im Gebiet des Freistaates Sachsen zwischen 1982 bis 2006; dann ergibt sich ein Bevouml;lkerungsruuml;ckgang von 5.148.521 auf 4.249.774 Personen. Dies entspricht einem Ruuml;ckgang der Bevouml;lkerung von etwa 17;5% in 24 Jahren. Allein der Bevouml;lkerungsverlust fuuml;r Sachsen in den Jahren der politischen Wende 1989/90 lag bei weit uuml;ber 100.000 Personen pro Jahr. Doch nicht nur in den Wendejahren entstand der Bevouml;lkerungsruuml;ckgang. Dies war ein kontinuierlicher Prozess; fuuml;r den heute noch kein Ende absehbar ist. In dieser Arbeit soll beispielhaft die Bevouml;lkerungsentwicklung in der Stadt Hainichen betrachtet werden. Die Kleinstadt liegt zwischen Chemnitz und Dresden im Zentrum Sachsens. Das Umfeld ist lauml;ndlich geprauml;gt. Zwischen 1982 und 2006 hat Hainichen 20;4% der Bevouml;lkerung verloren. Wauml;hrend im Jahr 2006 9.314 Einwohner hier lebten; waren es 1982 noch 11.705.Eine Bevouml;lkerung bewegt sich. Aber wie? Wie misst man Bevouml;lkerungsbewegungen? Auch in Sachsen hat sich in den letzten Jahren viel verauml;ndert. Wie sah diese Entwicklung aus? Und ist Hainichen als sauml;chsische Stadt auf dem gleichen Weg? Was bedeutet es; wenn Stauml;dte und Regionen von Einwohnern verlassen werden? Auf diese und weitere Fragen wird in dieser Arbeit eingegangen. Im zweiten Kapitel wird zunauml;chst das theoretische Fundament geschaffen. Es wird untersucht; wie sich die Bevouml;lkerung entwickelt. Nachdem Methoden zur Bestimmung der natuuml;rlichen Bevouml;lkerungsbewegung vorgestellt werden; wendet sich die Aufmerksamkeit der Bevouml;lkerungswanderung hin. Daran schlieszlig;t sich eine Betrachtung von Sachsen im Allgemeinen und der Stadt Hainichen im Speziellen an.

Based on this fact; Toe-Up Techniques is an excellent book. Why? Because the extensive instructions and explanations at the beginning of the book allowed me to learn to knit socks from the toe up. For someone who basically knits backwards to figure out the toe-up technique is testimony to solid and clear instructions. Thank you Janet Rehfeldt! I do admit that I had to try the beginning rows at least five or six times before I achieved a tidy toe; but that has more to do with my style of knitting than the instructions in the book. No more Kitchener stitch (which is very confusing left-handed) and no more running out of yarn before finishing the sock.I agree with other reviewers that there are few actual patterns in the book; but I do not find this to be a major fault. Many hand-knit socks feature pattern knitting only on the cuff. Anyone with the ability to count pattern stitches and in possession of a basic book of fancy knitting stitches can achieve a pattern-stitched cuff. Its not even that difficult to add a pattern to the top of the sock; after the toe increases; because the top stitches are on their own needle. Toe-Up Techniques has inspired me to return to sock knitting; with the knowledge that I no longer have to fight with tidy finishing of the toes.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. This book has some good pointers and a few good patterns. My only issue with it is that it is rather slim at 62 pages (and in a small format to boot!). However; it is chock full of good information and some beautiful patterns.Are there patterns that I want to knit? Yes; but there are only 7 in the whole book.Are the patterns easy to follow? YesIs the book a good Resource? Yes.Because of its slim size and slim number of patterns I have to give it a 4- or 4.
