Rakugo: Performing Comedy and Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Tokyo

DOC Rakugo: Performing Comedy and Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Tokyo by Lorie Brau in Arts-Photography

Description

This is a remarkable study of how Western culture has represented blindness; especially in that most visual of arts; painting. Moshe Barasch draws upon not only the span of art history from antiquity to the eighteenth century but also the classical and biblical traditions that underpin so much of artistic representation: Blind Homer; the healing of the blind; blind musicians; blindness as punishment; blindness as a special mark. The book discusses blindness in antiquity; in the Early Christian world; in the Middle Ages; and in the Renaissance; with a final consideration of Diderot.

Top of my listBy William MurphyAbsolutely a terrific architectural book with - thank you- floor plans of these most original projects; shown mostly with the architects detail working drawings along with very beautiful related photograps which show that these existing building do not contain tourtured spaces within. That each project pays respect to their existing landscape and a positive expression of the Architects understanding of the clients program.A book which is a pure pleasure visually and intellectually gratifying.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Muennig Architecture a Hallmark of Big SurBy KingBig Sur is an intesting place; and Mr. Muennigs architectural style is a hallmark of the region. I spend quite a bit of my spare time exploring Big Sur and have come across Muennig architecture at the Hawthorne Gallery; The Post Ranch Inn; and also while hiking. I enjoy the fluidity of his style; and in reading this book I realized the organic nature of his technique. This has influenced my personal landscape design style.I truly enjoy this book!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. this is a wonderful book for expanding the imagination into natural home buildingBy Kay K.this is a wonderful book for expanding the imagination into natural home building. just the inspiration alone offered in mr muennings thoughtful home designs is well worth a look.
