ePub Reinforced Concrete and the Modernization of American Building; 1900-1930 (Johns Hopkins Studies in the History of Technology) by Amy E. Slaton in Arts-Photography

Description

This survey of Sally Potterrsquo;s work documents and explores her cinematic development from the feminist reworking of Puccinirsquo;s opera La Bohegrave;me in Thriller to the provocative contemplation of romantic relationships after 9/11 in Yes. Catherine Fowler traces a clear trajectory of developing themes and preoccupations and shows how Potter uses song; dance; performance; and poetry to expand our experience of cinema beyond the audiovisual. At the heart of Potterrsquo;s work we find a concern with the ways in which narrative has circumscribed the actions of women and their ability to act; speak; look; desire; and think for themselves. Her first two films; Thriller and The Gold Diggers; largely deconstruct found stories; clicheacute;s; and images; while her later films create new and original narratives that place female acts; voices; looks; desires and thoughts at their center. Fowlerrsquo;s analysis is supplemented by a detailed filmography; bibliography; and an interview with the director.

Five StarsBy treasure hunterGreat book for a beginner .1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. hummBy andy58I would have given it more stars; maybe but throughout the book the author apologises about how this book couldnt possibly cover this that and suggests an internet search for more information. Well guess what I would have done that anyway.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Im a bit motivated; but this video producer would have liked different information.By N. SchaleThere is a lot of basic stuff here. If you are new to the video production game this is a decent enough book.I have over a decade of experience producing videos but have not touched on Special Interest Videos (SIVs). This book spent more than one occasion extrapolating the math: "shoot this video; sell this much a month and get this much per year". Then they would even multiply that by an example if you shot ten of those videos. What I was interested in was the interaction between the video producer (me) and the subject matter expert (person xyz). Repeatedly they mentioned how they prefer a buy out option but never give suggestions/examples/guidelines on that dollar amount. I understand every situation would be unique but given the examples on dollar amounts to be made; this was a key point I was hoping a large chapter would be dedicated to.I do appreciate how they outline how much a production would cost. There are things a lot of rookies do not consider that are a very real part of budgets. Also the forms in the back can be helpful. If nothing else. I am more motivated now to pursue a few ideas I have.
