In a grand tour of comic theater over the centuries; Erich Segal traces the evolution of the classical form from its early origins in a misogynistic quip by the sixth-century B.C. Susarion; through countless weddings and happy endings; to the exasperated monosyllables of Samuel Beckett. With fitting wit; profound erudition lightly worn; and instructive examples from the mildly amusing to the uproarious; his book fully illustrates comedys glorious life cycle from its first breath to its death in the Theater of the Absurd.

I expected something very much like the Beatles Complete Chord Songbook; which for a similar price contains 194 songs and is without a doubt the most enjoyable music book Ive ever bought. Ive given it as a gift many times. The Kinks deserve a similar treatment. Unfortunately; I was surprised to discover this book has only 16 songs. The complete listing is:All Day and All of the NightApemanAutumn AlmanacDaysDead End StreetDedicated Follower Of FashionLolaPlastic ManSee My FriendsSet Me FreeSunny AfternoonTill The End Of The DayTired Of Waiting For YouYou Really Got MeThe chord boxes are easy to use. Its exactly the same format as the Beatles book. Its a nice start; but its not nearly long enough. If it had 150 songs; then wed be getting somewhere. As it is; Im left to search the internet for most of the songs I hoped would be in this slim volume.
