Its not a "how to" book.By Frank BeeckmanThe author"Denes Agay (1911-2007) is a Hungarian composer; editor; conductor and piano teacher; with a PhD from Lizt Music Academy. He is best known as author of 96 books on music; mostly on piano. His "Best Loved Songs of the American People" (1975); is still a bestseller. He emigrated to the United States in 1939. He conducted the NBC radio show "Guest Star". After the attack on Pearl Harbor; he was band and choir conductor to entertain the many sick and wounded. His "Modern Classics" and "Joy Of" -series became the standard repertoire of every piano teacher for 60 years. He has also written "An Anthology of Piano Music" ; covering the Baroque; the classical period; romanticism and the 20th century. He has created The Denes Agay Piano and Composition Fund for scholarships at the Juilliard; and Denes Agay Scholarship Fund at the University of Southern California. The book:Songs are in the key of C; G; D; F; Eb and Ab. In 4/4 and 2/4; and it includes chords. Five songs have lyrics (*). Most songs are by the author; unles marked ():Aunt Rhody Boogie (Gerald Martin)Ballad Improvisation *Big-City PastoraleBlackberry Jam (Erskine Butterfield)Blues Without WordsCareless Love Boogie *China Jumps (Thomas "Fats" Waller)Club SayonaraDaffy DoodlesDarlin *Flamingo BayFrankie And JohnnyHappy Combo (Gerald Martin)Haunted House BoogieHeliotrope Bouquet (Scott Joplin-Louis Chauvin)Jimmy Crack Corn Boogie (Gerald Martin)Maple Leaf Rag (Scott Joplin)Rocky Romance (Gerald Martin)Shortnin Bread BoogieSmoky On The Rocks (Gerald Martin)Strolling In The MoonlightSunrise Serenade (Frankie Carle)The Blues Aint Nothin * (Folk Blues)The Boll Weevil Boogie *The Easy Winners (Scott Joplin)The Memory Of A WaltzThe Saints BoogieThe Verdict:I already have several Boogie Woogie books by the same author. I may have reviewed them on . His other book "An Introduction to Playing; Boogie; Blues and Jazz" is on my piano right now. The book "The Joy of Boogie and Blues- Book 2" is a fine book. I do suggest that you get this book AFTER you study the rudiments on how the boogie is structured. This understanding will help you with the "joy" of the Boogie and the Blues. ;-)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. according to our piano teacher this is one of the best jazz books out thereBy FeruzaMy son loves to play the songs in this book.
