I started to venture out into keeping watercolor paper in my filofax planner for quick journaling during the day. This book takes altering books; three ring or in my case 6 ring binder journaling in a different direction. I tend to bounce around in my journals; not going in any order and the binder method makes this easy to do. I have several journals going at the same time and this is a new way of keeping my lists; quotes; ideas and inspirations in a fun and easy format. I love the subject of different lists; themes; inspiriation that the author talks about in this book. Supplies as simple as office and art along with used books and binders makes for a new way to journal that I am happy to explore. The pictures and instructions are clear and well written with plenty of examples shown. She talks about how to use the computer to print lists in addition to handwritten methods and how to organize all this. There is a section of mini projects and plenty of tips and prompts to get you started. I have other books on journaling that I still get ideas from and this one totally goes in another direction in creating that I love.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. OK; but take some time to look at the book preview to see if youre drawn to the authors styleBy Tah_DahI think this is a nice book to recommend to someone who hasnt dabbled much in paper crafting; or is drawn to art journaling but is intimidated by the mixed media; more "artsy" approach. Nichole Rae has a clean; simple style that relies heavily on computer generated text. The mini projects; I felt; were something that has been seen and done many times (altered deck of cards; mini journal; and an ultra-simplistic altered book).Decently written and nicely photographed; but very basic info for those who already do any type of art journaling.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Lovely techniques to add to your journaling toolboxBy Ram SamI have been creating mixed media for years but I am somewhat new to the art journaling hobby. Much like altered books; art journals contain creations used to express ourselves. I have loved art journaling and have been anxious to find new techniques to practice. Nichole Rae does a beautiful job showing her techniques; giving you lots of visual inspiration; and then detailing the process very specifically; Her style is her own- simple; layered; paper and photo layouts and themed ephemera; all accented by carefully chosen words both printed and stamped. The result is a gorgeous end result of expression. Leaning more towards a journal than just an artsy layout. Its true; this book sticks singly to style described above; but I am grateful she takes the time to really explain the process. For the price of an art magazine you get a full-color; well photographed; step by step walk through of how to recreate the looks. By the time you have read this book; gazed at these pages; and worked through her prompts you will know how to complete one of these bursting albums. I especially love the instructions on prepping and refinishing the books you purchase for future journals. A few little bonus projects like repurposing an old deck of cards will also keep you plenty busy. I love this book; and cant wait to add these techniques to my own journal collection.
