RadeckerThe book entitled Images of America: Nunleys Amusement Park; is a wonderful tribute to the place were many a memory was created. The black white photos collected and contained within the pages are just a wonderful overview and snapshot of days gone by. The captions and stories are very personal; captivating; and interesting. Located in Baldwin; New York many towns surrounding the area unofficially adopted it as their own; but none more than Freeport whose High School was located right on its border. Nunleys Amusement Park was our small Disneyworld located right in our backyard. The author Marisa Berman captured all of its most treasured memories; stories and created what can be considered the ultimate "Playbill/Program" for the ages; which can now be passed down for generations to come. My family had three generations ride inside the park and four generations ride the magical and famous 100 year carousel. The inclusion of my families memories in words and photos was just such a honor and using the memories from many of those that experienced Nunleys throughout the years of operation makes the book very personal as well as very accurate. A must read for anyone who ever visited there or anyone who just loves amusement parks; because Nunleys was a real slice of American History "Pie" and it was right in our backyard; a family business that extended to thousands and generations.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A journey to the pastBy ChimesterGrowing up in Brooklyn and then moving to Long Island Nunleys was a big part of my childhood. It is not to be unexpected as one of my Dads aunts family ran an amusement park in Coney Island and for a while we lived off the Rockaway boardwalk. Through out the year as teenagers we rode our bikes to Nunleys; to play the miniature golf course or ride the carousel. The books text is not important but the photos are. Even when you dont find yourself in them you can imagine yourself a part of them. It helps that I actually have movie footage of our child riding the carousel I did growing up. If you care to you can find the video at http://youtu.be/G2r9dcGALdYA midst the teenage angst of the 1970s Nunleys and the book are both remidners of how good those times could be. It is worth losing ones self in it.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Nunleys !By DanGI grew up in Baldwin; and often walked to Nunleys as a kid. Many of my older neighbors also worked there; and Id often get longer rides than the other kids. Lots of fun times there; and this book does a gerat job of documenting the whole "Nunleys " Experience.Great reading.
