Divided into three sections; Linda Phyllis Austern collects eighteen; cross-disciplinary essays written by some of the most important names in the field to look at this stimulating topic. The first section focuses on the cultural and scientific ways in which music and the sense of hearing work directly on the mind and body. Part Two investigates how music works on the socially constructed; representational or sexualized body as a means of healing; beautifying and maintaining a balance between the mental and physical. Finally; the book explores the action of music as it is heard and sensed by wider social units; such as the body politic; mass communication; from print to sound recording; and broadcast technologies.

It contains two fairly long stories; essentially a part one and part two of Seargent Nate Slaughterhoue--the Mandroid--and his move to a Mega City One. Both stories are good and have great art; but Learnard Kirks art in part one is especially good; and that part of the story is especially intense; gripping; and emotional. Ive always preferred the darker; more epic Dredds over the satirical ones; and John Wagner does his usual great job with the writing. Dredd himself is more of a supporting character in this with Slaughterhouse and Mega City One itself taking the lead. Dredd (who ages in real time over the years that his comic runs) has some of the most epic storytelling in comics. This story is smaller and has less lasting effect than stories like Blockmania; the Apocalypse War; and Day of Chaos (which are all strongly connected over thirty years with each other and books like Doomsday for Dredd; Doomsday for Mega City One; and Necropalypse); but has great action and ambiance and is a really good read. There are a lot of terrible Dredd stories over the years; but if you stick with the big stories and the story specific collections; theres some amazing Dredd as well.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The law is black and whiteBy Reviewer from TerraWhen a space corps member is horribly wounded; hes returned to earth ; to mega city one; with his family. Rebuilt with top notch cybernetics. He discovers a truth: there no such thing as a free lunch; and theres safety in numbers. This was ok.
