Scalamandre: Haute Decor

ePub Scalamandre: Haute Decor by Steven Stolman in Arts-Photography

Description

This work takes the reader from the citys first professional theatrical presentation in 1820; through the heyday of vaudeville; to the grand reopening of the newly renovated Allen Theatre in 199 and the return of touring Broadway shows to Cleveland. In 1820 Cleveland was able to draw a visit from a troupe of professional actors. With no theater in which to perform; the troupe made do with Mowreys Tavern on Public Square; where a standing-room-only audience saw The Purse; or the Benevolent Tar. It was five years before another professional company would visit. As the city grew; theater blossomed and vaudeville flourished. In the early 1920s; five magnificent theaters opened at Playhouse Square; the State and the Palace; for mixed programs of vaudeville and movies; the Hanna and Ohio; for legitimate Broadway-style theater; and the Allen; for movies. Cleveland was also in the vanguard of the "little theater" movement with the establishment of the Cleveland Play House and the interracial Karamu Theatre. After a period of decline in the 1960s and 1970s; live theater was reborn in Playhouse Square; which is now the second largest performing arts complex in the country; and a vigorous new alternative theater is flourishing "off-Euclid".

I miss the days when there were professional writers; editors and publishers that could create information that was accurate; succinct and accessible. Now we have 8747 random locations of poorly formatted inaccessible musings that pass as technical writing. It there is print version of this book; it may have some merit but im not going to purchase the same item twice simply due to the failings of Kindle.10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. An excellent book for the experienced photographer taking on the Fujifilm XT-1By Kindle CustomerI have been a serious amateur photographer for 7 years; I have had multiple cameras (Nikons) and used multiple camera manuals;THIS book is really well done; Tony Phillips is very thorough and very personable in his writing; he provides many personal recommendations regarding use of the camera and software. The book is a huge undertaking; I suspect an actual team of experts worked on it.The writing is so good that the low quality monochrome images do not bother me; if you are taking on this camera you know enough to do without them anyway !For the non professional user; I would like to see ; as with all manuals; a chapter 1 devoted to simple operation of the camera in different modes; so you can take it right out of the box and start shooting.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Buy this truly excellent book now!By R. CorbettExcellent! Exhaustive guide to the X-T1. Well written and entertaining. Tony Phillips obviously knows the camera backwards and explains every button; feature and function in a clear fashion; always relating to real world usage. I know its a clicheacute;; but this guide is suitable for anyone who owns this camera; from beginner to pro. I say this because a complete understanding of; and the ability use all of the features and functionality of the X-T1; with speed and confidence will aid your photography.I was hesitant to buy this book as; at time of this writing; it has not been revised for firmware update 4. Dont let that stop you; you can easily fill in the blanks from info on the Fuji site and many other resources. People have justifiably complained about the the lack of a table of contents for this book. Its a bit of a pain; but I still give it 5 stars; as I was forced to read it from cover to cover; and Im very glad I did. I know how my camera works! If you own; or are considering an X-1; I wholeheartedly recommend this very good book.
