Self-Management for Actors: Getting Down to (Show) Business

ePub Self-Management for Actors: Getting Down to (Show) Business by Bonnie Gillespie in Arts-Photography

Description

Please note that all blank pages in the book were chosen as part of the design by the publisher. A good street photographer must be possessed of many talents: an eye for detail; light; and composition; impeccable timing; a populist or humanitarian outlook; and a tireless ability to constantly shoot; shoot; shoot; shoot and never miss a moment. It is hard enough to find these qualities in trained photographers with the benefit of schooling and mentors and a community of fellow artists and aficionados supporting and rewarding their efforts. It is incredibly rare to find it in someone with no formal training and no network of peers. Yet Vivian Maier is all of these things; a professional nanny; who from the 1950s until the 1990s took over 100;000 photographs worldwide-from France to New York City to Chicago and dozens of other countries-and yet showed the results to no one. The photos are amazing both for the breadth of the work and for the high quality of the humorous; moving; beautiful; and raw images of all facets of city life in Americas post-war golden age. It wasnt until local historian John Maloof purchased a box of Maiers negatives from a Chicago auction house and began collecting and championing her marvelous work just a few years ago that any of it saw the light of day. Presented here for the first time in print; Vivian Maier: Street Photographer collects the best of her incredible; unseen body of work.

BrooksGreat book for the dulcimer minded; (Oak Publications) 1975 Tells the histories of different early dulcimer makers J. Edward Thomas; Will Singleton; Jethro Amburgy; Benjamin Hicks; etc. 59 bw photos of the dulcimer people; places; and Instruments -as well as thier histories; (more photos of people then places or insruments) Tunings for Major (Ionian) Minor (Aeolian) Mixolydian; Dorian; Lydian; Phrygian tuning modes. 15 pages of dulcimer construction by Hank Levin with illustrations and advice. 30 pages of songs for the dulcimer -both in musical notation and some tablature; as well as tuning styles and playing styles of different players. 128 pages total. There is also advice on how to play the instrument with fiddles; mandolins; and banjos. 5 pages are dedicated to the related instruments; Epinette-with tunings; Scheitholt; and Langeleik from France; Germany and Norway respectively. This is a great early source book for reference use; includes discography; bibliography; and makers; but -this part- may be highly dated as the book is from 19750 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Superb content unavailable anywhere else (e-book is of limited use)By BanjoRuthThe good:1. Jean Ritchie writes beautifully of her own history with the dulcimer; a history that any dulcimer lover will want to know.2. She writes knowingly and well about many dulcimer players and makers; providing background information that can only come from someone who knew these people.3. There are a few songs (generally standard notation plus tab) in the book; and most of these songs were new to me.4. The review by C. Brooks describes more fully describes the rich content of the book.5. So; based on content; this is a must-read five star book for dulcimer people. The bad:1. The Kindle edition is a facsimile of the printed edition. That means that it is only readable on a large screen; such as a desktop computer or a large tablet. It cannot be read on; say; a smartphone or a smaller Kindle. Also; being a facsimile; the font is not crisp; so even on a large screen; the font isnt great. (Most pages are in double column format.) So; based on the e-book edition; I would give one star.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not for KindleBy ChasDo not order this for Kindle. It is illegible.
