The invention in the late eighteenth century of lithography; or "writing on stone;" reshaped the course of graphic arts. Some years later; the father of this world-changing technology; Alois Senefelder; published a description of the process. This English translation of the original German work; Vollstauml;ndiges Lehrbuch der Steindruckerey; vividly describes Senefelders struggles to develop and popularize the medium and the lithographic techniques employed in the process. The work is divided into two parts: the first presents a history of the invention and its different processes; the second provides practical instructions for its applicationmdash;the varieties of stone; ink; instruments; paper; and presses used for different tasks; and the pitfalls to be avoided in working with these materials. An essential reference for graphic artists and students; the classic 1819 treatise remains the definitive work on this topic.

The photographs are nothing less than perfect even though they are at least 40 years old! I was pleased to see that some photos from my time and my unit were included in the book. What struck me the most as I looked at the book was the enormity of the Vietnam war and the "like mindedness" of those who served. My view of my time and experience in the war was exposed to me as but a microcosm; that is to say I remember the trees but never really saw the forest until now. My compliments to John for a job well done!! F Troop (Air) 3/4 Cav.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very InterestingBy JAGJust like the title says...you get to see a wide variety of helicopter nose art from the Vietnam War. It was interesting to see all the various photos and to get a brief history of the craft. The process to select which photos would go into the book was also interesting. It was somewhat difficult to see on my Kindle but if you have a newer Kindle Fire it might just be great. It was not the authors fault that I have an older Kindle so I just give a 5 start effort here. Again the best available photos of the era were used and many were rejected due to quality. About as good as you can get if you are wishing to learn about this special aspect of service in Vietnam.
