Sexing the Self: Gendered Positions in Cultural Studies

ePub Sexing the Self: Gendered Positions in Cultural Studies by Elspeth Probyn in Arts-Photography

Description

Faced with the seemingly enormous difficulty of representing `others; many theorists working in Cultural Studies have been turning to themselves as a way of speaking about the personal. In Sexing the Self Elspeth Probyn tackles this question of the sex of the self; an issue of vital importance to feminists and yet neglected by feminist theory until now; to suggest that there are ways of using our gendered selves in order to speak and theorize non-essential but embodied selves. Arguing for `feminisms with attitude; Sexing the Self ranges across a wide range of theoretical strands; drawing upon a body of literature from early Cultural Studies to Anglo-American feminist literary criticism; from `identity debates to Foucaults `care of the self.

Note: this should be read as a music theoretical-historical document. For those wishing to to study tonal harmony; consider a modern undergraduate textbook such as Steven G. Laitzs "The Complete Musician;" or Miguel Roig-Francolis "Harmony in Context."3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. BrilliantBy GarvinUtilizing Rameaus principles produced immediate improvements in my compositions. He provides the most thorough explanation of how to figure a bass line--i.e; how to construct harmonies over it. Mastery of this aspect of composition is the inherent result of a true knowledge and understanding of harmony.3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Very goodBy Jean LammertynThis book contains not only the translation of Rameaus "Traiteacute; de lharmonie reacute;duite agrave; ses principes naturels: diviseacute; en quatre livres" but also the necessary comments en analysis to grasp the whole meaning of Rameaus book. If you want to learn about harmony; this is a good starting point.
