I contemplated this book on New Years day and found representatives of friends; family and characters from my life.So much of the time we are overwhelmed by artists of all disciplines who find it necessary to saturate us beyond satiation with their work. This compendium achieves greatness through allowing us the freedom to perceive the work through our personal lifetimes experience.I highly recommend it to all. 5 star ratings represent perfection in my view. I also like Kirschs poetry although I dont agree with his presumptions as to whats going on in the minds of the subjects. He has a tendency to project a politically correct interpretation. I.e. the rich must be arrogant and self-satisfied; the women must be oppressed...he assumes too much.However; I must say I love his poem about the wife of the artist. I think he totally nailed her pretentiousness.This book certainly has given me an appetite for more of Sanders photos. Wonderful companion to the photographsBy BenitaI love August Sanders work so I was a bit skeptical about poems written regarding the work. I should not have been. This was a thoughtful; insightful and wonderful way to engage and experience his photography all over again. Really lovely work and worth the read for sure.
