The Bold Aran and Tuscany Lace sweaters were group favorites. Im not an experienced lace knitter so if I make the Tuscany Lace sweater (I love the yoke and sleeves); I may substitute an easier lace pattern. Just my personal opinion; but the striped top; together with a lovely; but busy; lace bottom in a 3rd color was just a bit too much going on for me. I love the look of cables; but living in the South; I cant wear heavy sweaters. I rarely even give a cabled sweater pattern a glance. But the Bold Aran; with its simple; elongated cable in the front would be a perfect fall and winter top. The pattern calls for a soysilk yarn so I will probably swatch and try it with a linen blend.Of the 19 designs; two are done in #2 Light (sport); one in #2 Fine (fingering); one in #4 Worsted with the remainder knit in #3 DK. In looking at the recommended needle size and gauge; I believe some of the finer yarns are knit at a slightly looser than normal gauge. PLUS SIZE KNITTERS NOTE: The pattern sizes range from 40" to 48". I think it would be pretty easy to either go up a yarn size; or tweak the gauge to create a 1x or 2x size. Making the designs in larger sizes would take some modifications and some of the patterns would be easier to modify than others; at least for someone with my knitting skills. While there are some designs I would not knit as pictured; there is a design element or stitch pattern in each that I like and would use when knitting other garments. The cover and pages are a nice quality paper; although I would have loved it if the book had a hardcover and spiral bounding. In fact I would gladly pay more for books with better binding! Book publishers are you listening? The photography is first class; and there are shots of the front; back and design details of each sweater. Backgrounds are attractive; but kept simple so they dont detract from the knit designs. Overall; I was very pleased with the book.DJ; Atlanta2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ... sold me on this book and I am not disappointed. I know I will love the resultsBy Joy HarmonThe cover photo sold me on this book and I am not disappointed. I know I will love the results. It is so seldom you find a perfect pattern for a summer knit project. And there are several more that I cant wait to make! The publishers knew this is what sells craft books and they allow you to preview the project photos before buying. Other designers and craft publishers should take note. After all; if I were considering the hard copy; I would flip through it at the bookstore or craft shop before deciding to buy it. There are thousands of craft patterns available online. A good collection like this one is well photographed; well written; and all the designs have to be outstanding to sell a book.Designers should not be afraid to show the photos in previews. Sure; some people might copy your design. But experienced knitters who know how to design; also know how much work it takes to develop the pattern for a design and wouldnt hesitate to pay for a great design with the pattern already written.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not bad.By H. M. MCCALLExpect to do a lot of seaming; but the patterns in here are at least unusual.
