I was looking for advanced jazz arrangements of Christmas carols and I bought this book even though I was not familiar with the arranger. The pieces are all up-tempo; syncopated; swinging jazz arrangements. There are carols as well as secular Christmas songs. The jazz harmonies used are generally not too harsh or so dissonant that they make your years bleed. These arrangements dont have extended improvisational sections. For the most part; these arrangements donrsquo;t stray far from the melody. To quote the arranger from the introduction to this book; "A little syncopation can do wonders for the angels; shepherds; and wise men."This book is labeled as advanced and these pieces will take some practice. This is due mostly to the fast tempos and jazz rhythms used. I would say this is at the low end of ldquo;advancedrdquo; so they wonrsquo;t be excessively difficult to master.
