Staging History: Brecht's Social Concepts of Ideology

audiobook Staging History: Brecht's Social Concepts of Ideology by Astrid Oesmann in Arts-Photography

Description

In Reimagining Life; Raihan Kadri presents a pioneering critical history of the epistemological and theoretical origins of the Surrealist movement and its subsequent legacy. The book contains extensive examination and new interpretations of the oft-neglected theoretical writing of Surrealists such as Andreacute; Breton; Louis Aragon; Antonin Artaud; and Salvador Daliacute;; in order to demonstrate how Surrealism is connected to a broader lineage of philiosophical pessimism-involving such figures as Fredrich Nietzsche; Karl Marx; and Arthur Rimbaud-which Kadri argues represents a particular strain of modernism aimed at breaking human thought away from the constraints of religion and other forms of idealism in order to expand the possibilities for knowledge and human freedom. The innovative; wide-ranging study deftly traverses fields of art; politics; philosophy; psychology; and literature. Reimagining Life redefines Surrealisms place in modern intellectual history and offers a new vision of how Surrealist discourse can be connected to contemporary debates in cultural; critical; and theoretical studies.

The writer has put in minimal effort; got some classic dialogues (memorized by fans throughout the world) wrong and generally done a very poor job of researching the making of the movie. I consider the AC book on Sholay as the gold standard in this genre - and this AAA book fails miserably in comparison. Save your money and avoid this cash-grab by the publisher. I was so looking forward to reading this book and was terribly disappointed.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Valuable ResourceBy CustomerFor anyone who loves the 1978 Bollywood superhit of the same name; especially if they do not speak Hindi; this book is a valuable resource . The author includes a chapter on the director; Manmohan Desai; as well as a full analysis of the movie plus tidbits gleaned from interviews with the actors; the directors son and other crew members. He also includes a chapter detailing the plot which I found particularly helpful. More than just a fan book; Bhatia examines the film in its historical context with regard to religion; unity; and secularism of India at that time.
