Brilliant analysisBy Peter AnastasThis is one of the most significant books I have read on the emotional aftereffects of the end of communism in the former Eastern Block nations; including East Germany. Scribners study is grounded in psychoanalysis; especially concerning questions of mourning; melancholia and loss; and she demonstrates how this dynamic has become the subject; as well as a means of working it through in the visual and literary arts of these nations. I recommend reading this book first; and then proceeding to her more recent book; "After the Red Army Faction:Gender; Culture and Militancy;" a brilliant analysis of the role of women in Germanys Red Army Faction.
