Talkin' to Myself: Blues Lyrics; 1921-1942

audiobook Talkin' to Myself: Blues Lyrics; 1921-1942 by Michael Taft in Arts-Photography

Description

Milwaukeersquo;s City Hall on East Wells and North Water streets is a landmark. Not only officially; but as part of Milwaukeersquo;s identity; from the cityrsquo;s flag to the Laverne and Shirley sit-com in the 1970s. The site for this familiar building was not easily chosen. The final location was not the first choice for most of Milwaukeersquo;s movers and shakers; and after it was finally settled upon; the difficulties only became bigger. Battles over designs and the bidding process became politically heated and personal in nature. Cost overruns in the construction; although common at the time; grew to gigantic proportions. The completed building was; however; structurally sound and pleasing to the eye. Still standing 115 years later; it is a monument to the Milwaukee government officials; architect and builder.

Almost too comprehensive?By Pecos PeteThe passion for the subject and the depth of the research overcomes the danger of attempting to cover as much as possible on the subject (film-music history). Given two volumes it would be amazing; and perhaps then Cooke could become the first to take on the last fifteen years of history (so far too daunting for anyone it would seem). I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a broad perspective on the whole picture; which includes great coverage of film-music made in places far from Hollywood. If you are looking for a deeper look and analysis into certain aspects of the history; you might find Film Music: A History a more thoughtful read. And if its "cheap and cheerful" you want; its hard to beat Film Music: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions). If you are a film-music fan... you need them all :-)But Im not opinionated (no; sir).2 of 8 people found the following review helpful.
