The best historical study of upscale residential development?By CustomerA well-written and in-depth study of the development of these two iconic residential enclaves. The author leads us through the first concepts of large-scale residential subdivisions in Dallas; Houston; Texas; and the country in general; from around 1900 to the completion of the communities after WWII. Also included are descriptions of the individual developers; architects; and landscape designers involved and detailed descriptions of landmark houses. There is little discussion of how these developments were the children of the automobile or why and how they contributed so much value to their parent cities while later suburbs only seem to add unsustainable sprawl. If there is a more scholarly and detailed account of the history of upscale residential communities in America; I havent found it yet. Congrats to the author for a superb effort -- deserves some kind of book award; IMHO. (Only found one typo -- hint; possibly the author is from Dallas; not Houston?).
