Needed Practical Advice for Studio Piano TeachersBy C. PayneThis timely book; written by an experienced piano teacher and writer; is a handy guide for private studio teachers. It might be considered a reference; rather than a "how-to" book; as its principle goal is to provide resources for teachers to consult on a variety of topics. The danger with this choice is that the book will need frequent up-dating; especially considering the number of references to internet websites.Particularly appreciated in this book is the approach that piano teachers are professionals and commanding of respect for their skills and education. The author does not hold back on discussing lesson fees and compares the income of piano teachers to plumbers; janitors; and other professions. For a more in-depth book about teaching children; see the excellent "Professional Piano Teaching;" by Jeannine Jacobson (Alfred Pub.). "Practical Piano Pedagogy;" by Martha Baker-Jordan is also an interesting how-to book for teachers (Warner Bros. Pub.)
