Tremendously well researched. Its as much a history of the American theater as a biography and I found it exceptionably readable. Its not gossipy but neither does it shy away from revealing the many faults of the Shubert brothers and their family. Its now in my permanent collection.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A story of guts and greed that gave us Broadway as we know it todayBy Katie SThe Shubert Brothers were the Steve Jobs of their day: singularly focused on the creation of the American Theatre / Broadway Business as a means to achieve their personal wealth--all at the expense of their colleagues; their workers and any one who might get in their way. Too bad these brilliant men were dismal failures in their personal lives. A fascinating story of rags to riches for the Shuberts; and from bawdy to beloved for the Broadway shows as we know them today.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very good readBy Mary HStrange bunch of people. Amazing what they accomplished in the theater. The book shows the Shubert quirks--there are lots of them! But quite balanced and does justice to their importance to theater in America.
