DOC The Cambridge Companion to the String Quartet (Cambridge Companions to Music) by From Cambridge University Press in Arts-Photography

Description

This Companion offers a concise and authoritative survey of the string quartet by eleven chamber music specialists. Its fifteen carefully structured chapters provide coverage of a stimulating range of perspectives previously unavailable in one volume. It focuses on four main areas: the social and musical background to the quartets development; the most celebrated ensembles; string quartet playing; including aspects of contemporary and historical performing practice; and the mainstream repertory; including significant mixed ensemble compositions involving string quartet. Various musical and pictorial illustrations and informative appendixes; including a chronology of the most significant works; complete this indispensable guide. Written for all string quartet enthusiasts; this Companion will enrich readers understanding of the history of the genre; the context and significance of quartets as cultural phenomena; and the musical; technical and interpretative problems of chamber music performance. It will also enhance their experience of listening to quartets in performance and on recordings.

Because the only way to read it is on Kindle on my monitor I found it not as convenient to use as a Revit soft-cover book I recently purchased which allows me to have the book open as I go through the training exercises. I liked his particular perspectives on converting mass elements to building elements; creating custom doors and windows and modeling the highly detailed fireplace. I really liked his exterior detailing exercises - that is a huge deal for me. But unless I completely missed it; I didnt find any explanation of how to do the roof trusses and framing; though he does state early on this is not a beginner book but a guide for more advanced users. Maybe I should already have known that stuff? No training book is perfect but overall I am glad I bought it because it has helped me to become a better Revit user.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. OK; but needs workBy hpWhile the content of the book is strong; its delivery suffers from two significant pitfalls:There arent nearly enough diagrams to support the text. If you dont know your way around a particular area of the software; following the text-only instructions can be frustrating and painful. This is coming from someone who is familiar with the interface and many areas of the software who purchased the book to brush up on some unfamiliar aspects of the program. There are no files in progress; so using the book in non-linear fashion is out of the question.Given the cost; I suppose the first offense (as well as some minor formatting issues) can be forgiven. However; in this day and age; one would expect the author to post chapter-by-chapter progress files to his website.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very helpful; and cant wait for next editionBy soccersettervery helpful; but doesnt go over some of the other aspects of residential design that I was hoping for; namely building pads; foundation construction; sloping garage walls and how said walls are joined; as well as some details on how to frame walls and roofs. That being said; this was still an extremely helpful guide; and is probably my first recommendation to purchase if you are going to be doing residential design in revit; especially because the price is so good. Im also looking forward to the next publication by this author on construction documentation in revit. I hope it comes with some sample files.
