As a commercial artist; a fine artist and a designer I found this publication full of inspirational and imaginative illustrations and paintings. Most of the images were so fresh and unusual I suspected it was published in another country and it was: British Library Cataloguing. More samples from this publisher can be found at [...]. If you are an artist and want to add an insect drawing book to your library; this is the one to buy.14 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Nice pictures; terrible proseBy P. B. FrandsenI am a PhD student in entomology and; consequently; I was happy to stumble upon this book. From the previews; the drawings looked fantastic and I was anxious to learn new techniques to help me improve my insect drawing hobby. The paintings and drawings in the book are beautiful and I enjoyed spending time thumbing through the pages and admiring each insect. I will give the book two stars for that reason. However; there are two BIG reasons why I cannot recommend it for any more "stardom".1. There is very little about the actual techniques involved in drawing an insect. I would have liked to see much more step-by-step instruction and intermediate drawings. There is a bit of this; but the book is so poorly organized and the instructions so scattered that even the "good" sections are difficult to find and follow.2. The prose is truly horrendous. I am unsure how this got past the editors/publishers. I had extreme difficulty wading through a single paragraph (and I spend all day reading technical scientific articles). It is as if the author wishes to obfuscate any potential information transfer by making his prose as obtuse as possible.I REALLY wanted to like this book; but I dont. If you just want a coffee table book with nice pictures of insects; but have no interest in improving your own drawings or reading any of it; go for it. The pictures are really nice. However; if you hope to gain any useful insight into the process of insect drawing or if you would like to be able to understand any of the concepts that the author attempts to convey; I am afraid this book fails miserably in these regards.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
