Why after this film debacle did he have so much trouble finding financing for his future films despite having a backlog of cinematic masterpieces behind him?Here for the first time is the tragic story of what might have been a magnificent film that became average when Kurosawa was not able to deliver the Japanese footage. It is the story of a perfectionist working in an imperfect medium; of an auteur unable to work with a team; and of a man who felt deeply responsible for giving the Japanese side of a conflict he himself avoided due to family connections.Written with the input and cooperation of those who were there; reading "All The Emperors Men" makes you feel as if you are reading a disaster you wish could have been avoided.
