Donald Fagen is a very funny; grumpy; insightful man.By Alan NitikmanThe book starts with Fagens early life and influences; skips his 40 years with Walter Becker Steely Dan; then picks up in the late 80s and up to 2014. His journal of that later period is especially hilarious and occasionally very moving. He even did an excellent job of reading his own book for the AudioBook edition.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Who knew? That Fagen could have...By R.N. ShapiroWho knew? That Fagen could have been a wondrous writer ((if he gave up his paying gig). Im a fiction thriller author but Fagen hurled more word bombs than Ive ever experienced in a short novel (words that required a lookup). Though this is a set of loosely associated book sections; the witty and caustic view of America he presents is highly interesting. And gives context to some of his music lyrics too. There are some vividly painted scenes of his world that are amazing. Dont expect a story with a beginning; middle and end. Expect to be entertained.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I didnt want this book to endBy MckinneyriceHilariously cynical; honest and self-deprecating. The first half of the book is an interesting look at the 50s/60s upbringing and adolescence of Donald where we see the seeds of Steely Dans cryptic music planted. The second half of the book; which is essentially a tour journal; had me busting out with laughter. Fans of the Dans sarcasm; dark and intelligent humor will love this book.
