The Destruction of Art: Iconoclasm and Vandalism since the French Revolution (Picturing History)

PDF The Destruction of Art: Iconoclasm and Vandalism since the French Revolution (Picturing History) by Dario Gamboni in Arts-Photography

Description

Paul Nash (1889ndash;1946) has long been admired as one of the outstanding English landscape painters of this century. Nash has a deep affinity for such favourite sites in Southern England as the rolling downland near Swanage; the gaunt coastline at Dymchurch; the enigmatic stone circles at Avebury; and the twin hills in Oxfordshire known as the Wittenham Clumps which became his ultimate Place and the focal symbol of his art.In this book Roger Cardinal surveys the full range of Nashs work; from the ravaged Flanders landscapes of World War One to the spectacular aerial battles of World War Two and the meditative late oils; his final materpieces.

A must for any jazz fan who lives ...By Myron F Bayliss JrIf you are a fan of jazz in general Trane in particular; then this book is a must-read! As a collector of jazz records since the 50s; I have many Impulse albums in my music library. This book by Mr. Kahn explains the inner workings of one of the most revered jazz labels of all time. He gives us insight an understanding of the path that music takes from the recording sessions to public availability consumption. As with the previous books Mr. Kahn has written on jazz; this one is excellent! A must for any jazz fan who lives with those orange black Impulse album covers draws inspiration from the music contained therein...I absolutely believe in the Art Blakey quote: "Jazz washes away the dust of everyday life".2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Trane Was Only Part of the Equation at Impulse!By David May; WHFC-FMThe House That Trane Built should be read by anyone who loves jazz. The book is very well-written; providing insight into the ways that records were produced; including some of the behind-the-scenes corporate shenanigans. Most importantly; the book is written in chronological order of record release dates; giving historical insight into the musicians; their session goals; and their interaction with the producers of Impulse Records. After reading the book; you will feel compelled to enlarge your collection of Impulse recordings.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
