They are fun to reference and great to just sit and look at. The pictures are beautiful and the writing is short and to the point; perfect to keep the attention of an active 6 year old.He really enjoyed this one and we paired it with a few worksheets (easily found for free online) and a science documentary for extra immersion. The way the text is laid out also makes it extreamly easy to make your own little quiz just by rewriting the text blurb with a couple of missing words and letting them fill it in. I would have liked to see the animals in the pictures label though so it would be easy to point out to him and to look them up.I was sent this item for free in exchange for my honest review; all opinions are my own.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. this needs a lot of workBy Prewitt FamilySo; this maybe had a good idea behind it. But; as a home school mom; I feel it is leaving out a lot. Theres some opportunities for opening a unit study (for instance; they use words like "mesopelagic" and "photic zone" that I would have to look up and teach my kids about. As well; one states something like "from the time of Pliny..." who is Pliny? I dont know; and my kids sure wont either.) but for the most part; this is a toddlers picture book at best; and would have been better without the facts at all.Theres a "did you know" fact about the Coelacanth Fish but no picture.The "d.y.k." facts are not related to the photos AT ALL which is immensely confusing. One fact slide talks about trying Indian Ocean being a breeding ground for humpback whales...the next picture is of a shark.Some of the fact slides have super awkward grammar.. "most of the organisms that live there rely for subsistence on falling organic matter produced in the photic zone."As well; none of the pictures were labeled in ANY way; which makes the lack of correlating facts extra annoying. Theres pictures of beautiful fish with no name. A fact about the great Barrier reef or the Pacific volcano ring; and NOT A SINGLE PICTURE of those places.Overall the pictures were pretty; the facts were fairly interesting; but the book didnt put the 2 together in any shape; form; or fashion.If I wanted to look at pictures; I would just google. I want to read books to learn.I received this book Im exchange for an honest test and review. This is an excellent ebook for kidsBy rkreviewerThis is an excellent ebook for kids! As a teacher of elementary students; I would love to incorporate this ebook into a small group activity where I present a main idea or topic to the whole class and then they break up in small groups and discover more material on their own. My mind was continuously racing as I read through this book thinking of different projects I could make on this topic. It is the perfect age group to let them use a kindle to explore and what a better way to do so than with this ebook! I will totally let other teachers know of this opportunity and will keep this seller in mind with other ebooks available.
