I LOVE IT - but its not for everyone!!By shopgirl76When I first opened the box and saw this; my first reaction was annoyance: I had failed to check the dimensions on this product; so at 7 square inches; this was NOT what I was expecting to get for $13! I was fully prepared to promptly return this but as soon as I flipped through it; my face lit up with a huge smile - its so beyond cute; girly and vintage-y that I momentarily (crazily!!) contemplated buying a second one instead!!!Now; I should explain a few things for anyone contemplating this purchase.First of all; a previous reviewer who mentioned that there are no structured instructions IS correct - this is more about visual cues than step by step written instructions. Its very cutesy; so if youre looking for something thats more like a "user manual" to learn a new craft; this is probably not the best book for you - especially on account of the size. However; if youre into things like junk journaling; smash books; freestyle doodles; altered art with a decided penchant for all things French; Shabby chic and vintage; I honestly believe that you *may* just want to buy and love this and turn it into an altered journal if youre not using it to follow the admittedly rather rudimentary "instructions" for doodles.So...I personally would almost look at this as a super cute smash book with some cues for how you could also make some fun doodles. But; again; if your primary purpose for wanting this book is actual instruction; I agree with the reviewer who suggested that this was not really the right kind of book for that.16 of 16 people found the following review helpful. I cant draw.....By Barbara Costabut this fun and charming book gives me the directions on how to do simple Frenchy designs to incorporate into my collage artwork. I love the blank and beautiful pages at the end of the book that just invite you to start drawing. I plan on buying several of these books as gifts for my special friends who can use an excuse to be creative and play!14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Cest bon!By Laura McHughDoodling in French - How to Draw with Joie de Vivre by Anna Corba is such a gem and a delight; like the artist herself. I was so excited to get this book and pored over the beautiful pages with all the small details and wonderful photography and reproductions. I have seen Annas work in person as a student; and the images in the book precisely depict her style and attention to detail; Annas own joie de vivre!I eagerly anticipated seeing the book because I am a fan of Annas other books on the genre of how to make collages with a French flair. This book was no disappointment! The left-facing pages have simple-to-follow instructions on how to draw everyday objects such as hats; flowers and garden watering cans. They are organized by parts of the home and life in a whimsical fashion that sparks creativity and the imagination. On the right-facing pages; Anna shows how to combine the doodled object with delicate collaged elements to make sensual art pieces that stand on their own; or can be used for cards or boxes. Combined with techniques and projects from Annas other published books; such as Vintage Paper Crafts and Making Memory Boxes; this set of examples and instructions on how to draw helps Annas followers create the unique personal marks in their art that Anna teaches are so important. The last part of the book is chock full of pages with starter material for you to draw in your doodles and complete your own collages; so if you dont have some French ephemera of your own at hand; fear not. You can create lovely pieces right in your own copy of this book. What a great gift these precious smaller format books would make for a group of your besties in your book group; or as a thank you gift for bridesmaids.
