In The Future of Ritual; Richard Schechner explores the nature of ritualised behaviour and its relationship to performance and politics. A brilliant and uncontainable examination of cultural expression and communal action; The Future of Ritual asks pertinent questions about art; theatre and the changing meaning of culture in todays intercultural world. An exciting new work by the author of Performance Theory.

Many view Inside the Actors Studio as merely a show that interviews actors; its much more than that. The students of Pace University major in writing; directing; acting; screen writing etc. When an actor such as Barbra Streisand or George Clooney are aired the research that James Lipton goes through to find every fascinating detail makes the show a success. Im a great admirer of James Lipton and find each interview that spills over to the students question/answer period fascinating. Many also think that this program is an hour and then the actor leaves but they dont; they stay and in five hours of interviewing; students get to ask questions something not seen on television. Excellent program and fascinating book. Buy it!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Was he kidding...By Dana FergusonWhen he said the book was going to be very little about himself? Thats all its about is him! I wouldnt have minded a little background on how he became involved with the Actors Studio; and how the show came to be; but the first quarter thus far has been all about his life with very little about Inside the Actors Studio. I thought I was going to be reading some thoughts on the interviews and some behind the scenes gossip/stories. The only things hes referenced so far about the show is quoting parts of episodes that if you have watched them; youve already heard what the guests have to say. And most of the quotes are in relation to a story about his life. There have been a few interesting tidbits thus far; like it takes 3-6 hours to tape each episode (that shows how much is cut out since the show is only an hour!); but so far; Im super-disappointed. Maybe I just havent gotten into all the things I was looking for when I bought this book; but if he wanted to just go on about himself; he should have written an autobiography instead.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Definitely not a fast readBy D. E. AustinI saw the latest show; which blurbed the book; in addition to interviewing Bradley Cooper; Robert DeNiro; etc. I am having a hard time getting through it; and I usually have the Kindle books read in less than a week. I have come back to it after each of 20 other books; and cant even get to end of a chapter before breaking. Granted I am only 3% through it according to the K reader. Ill try it next on the iPad; where I can easily skip around chapters. Language is more pedantic than on the show.
