The Gods Weep (Oberon Modern Plays)

audiobook The Gods Weep (Oberon Modern Plays) by Dennis Kelly in Arts-Photography

Description

Friendships grow in the most unlikely of places. Mrs Reynolds is a little old lady. Jay is a troubled youth. When he vandalises her lovingly tended garden; the authorities send him back to help her fix it. It seems a recipe for disaster - but human beings are more complex than the headlines. At first glance this is a simple tale of two generations locked in battle; Mrs Reynolds standing up for traditional values with her "nice little house; nice little garden and nice little life" vs. Jay; the textbook chain-smoking hoodie prowling the urban jungle demanding respect but offering little in return. But there is more to these characters than the other suspects. Just as they think they have the measure of each other; something is revealed and they are shocked by what they find out.Mrs Reynolds and the Ruffian explores human nature and friendship alongside the social climate of modern Britain giving a warm; funny and wise glimpse into the way we live now.

KaneThis elegant book from renowned martial arts author Dave Lowry is both enlightening and pleasing to the spirit. Mixing examples of his masterful brush work with insightful and thought provoking stories; Lowry delves into the deeper meaning of common martial concepts. It is easy reading yet profound. I read it for the first time nearly a decade ago then recently picked it up again. I do not know if it is the natural maturity that comes with age or through the furtherance of my martial training but I have found it even better the second time around. If you are looking for deeper meaning in from your budo training; this work belongs on your bookshelf!Lawrence KaneAuthor of Surviving Armed Assaults; The Way of Kata; and Martial Arts Instruction0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Worth the read to meBy VikkiI enjoyed learning about calligraphy; Japanese culture and philosophy. Not sure if it is oversimplified like some reviewers say but it kept my attention and I feel like it increased my knowledge.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
