The plays in this collection reveal in combination the frivolous and serious aspects of Tom Stoppards talent: his sense of fun; his sense of theatre; his sense of the absurd; and his gifts for parody and satire. The author rounds off his brief introduction; giving the genesis of each piece; with the comment: The role of the theatre is much debated (by almost nobody; of course); but the thing defines itself in practice first and foremost as a recreation. This seems satisfactory.Leading off is The Real Inspector Hound; the ultimate country-house whodunnit; Dirty Linen moves a Whitehall farce to Parliament Square; Doggs Hamlet; Cahoots Macbeth subverts Shakespeare; and After Magritte explains the inexplicable.

Paul came across the most authentic I have witnessed any member of Kiss so I purchased the book. Paul is a NYC kid like I was. I was pleasantly surprised to read about the many things we had in common. He even lived 3 blocks away from me at one point. Thanks for turning me onto The Move. GREAT BAND !The book tells the Kiss story and the Paul Story. I found it to be very informative and reflective of a life attained through hard work and determination; also of luck.Paul stresses the good and disregards the bad as un necessary. The Starchild has grown up.Thanks for the memories and the reminder to be yourself. Kiss was very instrumental to me in my youth. I will never forget the joy I got listening to them and staring at the album covers. My imaginary friends that inspired me when all felt wrong.Peace2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Different view of Paul now; for sure!By Pat CGrowing up I was always the Ace character. We used to use my mothers Mary Kay cosmetics and paint our faces. I was never a big Paul fan. Lately; i have been to a few KISS concerts; and they are just ho hum. I like the original lineup; i am old school. However. I am glad I gave Pauls book a chance. I have a total respect for the guy now; and have a better understanding of how Paul interacted in the band. Paul gave it his all and was a big instrumental part of the band. They all provided their part; and Paul gives kudos to the other members. Highly recommended.b2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very enjoyable.By Marie K. EisenmannI have read Pauls book several times. Its a very good history of the start of Kiss and I like how he describes the single minded focus that he and Gene had to make their band a success. He talks about his mistakes and his success very honestly. The book comes off as....a little bit preachy but is also very inspiring. Work hard and persevere at a realistic goal and you can succeed.
