ebooks The Immortal Comedy: The Comic Phenomenon in Art; Literature; and Life by Agnes Heller in Arts-Photography

Description

Claude Cahun is the most important artist youve never heard of - until now. Writer; photographer; lesbian; revolutionary activist; surrealist; resistance fighter - Cahun witnessed the birth of the Paris avant-garde; lived through two World Wars and; as Der Soldat ohne Namen; risked death by inciting mutiny on Nazi-occupied Jersey. And yet; shes until recently been merely a peripheral figure in these world-shaping events; relegated by academics to the footnotes in the history of art; sexual politics and revolutionary movements of the last century. Now more so than ever; Cahun demands a significant presence in the history of surrealism and the avant-garde - even; in the literary canon of early twentieth-century literature. Indeed her one major book; Disavowals; is a masterpiece of anti-memoir writing. Much has been made of her as a photographer; but Claude Cahun the writer was one of the most radical and prescient leftists of the century. At a time when her star is rising like never before Claude Cahun: The Soldier With No Name represents the first explicit attempt in English to posit Cahun as an important figure in her own right; and to popularise one of the most prescient and influential artists of her generation.

I loved the inside details about these artists and it was also very clarifying. There are a number of good books about this time frame that are new publications. Currently I am reading "Shocking Paris" which works almost like an expansion on this book.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Sue Roe Always Kills It.By Christian JosiMy interests seem to fall exactly in line with Sue Roes interests; so I am filled with delight whenever I come across something by her. IN MONTMARTRE is wonderfully written and researched and; like her other work PRIVATE LIVES OF THE IMPRESSIONISTS is jammed with facts and anecdotes and makes the reader feel like they are there; taking it all in. Great book. More; please.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I had to pick up a paintbrush after this.By kitzstep back in time; be inspired!
