Hes been building stone walls around our property for decades and absolutely fell in love with this book.... Id say it was his favorite birthday gift! He couldnt put it down and immediately started looking at some of the rocks we have on our property to see what else he could do around the house. The photographs are all unique and feature a variety of different styles and designs. Its the type of book that you could leave on your coffee table for people who may not be stone wall enthusiasts to flip through; as well as the perfect gift for the dad who loves this sort of thing!5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great book for anyone who has grown up in New EnglandBy Mike FenwayI bought this book for my mother who has lived her entire life in Connecticut; where there are so many stone walls; they are easy to take for granted. The home I grew up in had stone walls on two sides.) This book helps one appreciate the history and workmanship that live in these walls. The photographs and text are excellent. The geology behind these walls (last ice age) is explained well as are the reasons behind the many different walls one sees in New England. Great gift or purchase for ones self.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful PhotographsBy AllanI love our stone walls/fences. They divide our forests and fields and tell a story about the people who worked this land before us. These photographs and annotations tell of a logical way to keep the cows out of the corn. Then; the story continues to when artistry takes over and makes the utilitarian fence a piece of art. No matter the builders purpose; they are beautiful and worth restoring or just marveling at their longevity.
