OK for new construction with an unlimited budget but worthless in most remodel situations - very much out of date on plumbingBy WinterNo additional information or insights beyond what can be downloaded as PDF files from the internet at no cost. I was expecting planning help and instead got measurements for wall set off from a toilet or sink which is information that is available online. Lots of bad choices illustrated as examples of what can be done as with the current fad of long trough sinks instead of individual sinks which leaves no countertop area to set things. Same applies to pictures and drawings show a shelf extended over the top of the toilet so even something minor like replacing the flap valve requires removing the toilet from its floor mounting. The layouts also show large square bathrooms which is fine if you are starting from scratch with a new house but of little use for people remodeling an existing bathroom in the majority of houses in the USA where a 15 x 15 foot or larger space is seldom encountered. This extends to anyone wishing to alter a traditional bathroom with a combination tub and shower into something more along ADA lines or for those wishing to age in place in their current home.No time is spent providing information much less examples on how to make the best use of space. Wall mounted toilets; doorless showers; soaking tubs and other options are shown by accident and not with the idea of educating the reader as to how to make the best use of limited space. With bath tubs the placement of the faucets has a big impact on usability with so many designs where the user has to lean across the width of the tub to use them or has to climb over them to get into or out of the tub. The fill spout and faucets do not have to be in the same location and the two faucets can instead be a single cold and hot water control. No evidence of this being apparent to the authors in this book.Truly sad that this is supposed to be a guide for professional bathroom designers and contractors as it provides just enough information for them to think they understand what should be done without actually providing the information or guidance that is actually required. There is also a large gap between currently available materials and plumbing fixtures and rough plumbing options for edge drains and flexible air venting and other technology that improves on the options available and can reduce cost while improving reliability and utility and this information is also completely absent from the book. It might as well have been written 10 years ago as none of the developments over that interval made their way into this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
