Highly recommend as supplement to other Alfred lesson booksBy Rockville; MDNot sure why on earth this book is hard to find on ; because I think this sight reading lesson book is a wonderful addition to other volumes in the Alfred Basic/Prep piano series. Now; I will admit I may slightly biased towards this type of book as I was such a horrible sight reader as a child that it really affected my ability to learn new music. Even after all my years of playing; my somewhat better - but still relatively poor - sight reading is still a hindrance. Consequently; when I started teaching my kid piano; I was overjoyed to see this supplement as an option within the Alfred course (so as to help my kid be less sucky at this skill as I was). Now; I used this book as part of the Prep (versus Basic) series; so note thst its good for both the orange "A" books and the blue "B" books. (If that statement seems confusing check out the back cover of any Alfred piano book here on that allows you to "look inside"; and it will show a chart on how all the Alfred series are interrelated. This book was officially designed for the late elementary-targeted Basic series but can be used just as easily for the younger-targeted Prep series or the older adult series - just realize that the handy reference page numbers wont match if used with a alternative series; but simple enough to figure out). The sight reading exercises match along with the lessons - middle C position; C position; slurs; ties; 2nds; 3rds; etc. Each page focuses on a topic; and has about a half dozen exercises. Each exercise is around 4 bars. Easy peasy and short enough to give even little kids confidence that they can learn new music easily. We usually start off each lesson with an exercise or two as warm ups. It has made a world of difference in how my kid views new music versus how badly I dealt with it at that age.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Customergood!
