Description

THE PARTY LINE is a historical drama. Using real and fictional characters; it intermingles the story of Walter Duranty ndash; the New York Timesrsquo; Pulitzer Prize-winning Moscow correspondent in the 1930s ndash; with the more contemporary story of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn who was assassinated in 2002; on the eve of becoming prime minister. Sheryl Longin and Roger L. Simon have accomplished a breathtaking feat in their imaginative and topical play; The Party Line. The title; as students of Communism know; refers to onersquo;s adherence to the current position on an issue as outlined by the Communist Party in its heyday. . . .

Stands the Test of TimeBy Catherine McnabbI am a really big fan of the series so I was interested in seeing how a multi-espisode series would translate to a two hour play 20 years later. The author did an excellent job of keeping the heart and soul of the series. Of course as with most books or in this case series that is condensed you do lose some favorite moments; but the wonderful characters and poignant moments were not lost. I just wish I could see this play produced here in the States.
