The tone is that of a biologist; outlining clearly the scientific knowledge gaps as well as common misconceptions. I learned more about cheetahs through this one source than I have through my years of studying the cats on a casual basis and working with them in Africa. This book is so thorough that I was able to find several misconceptions even perpetuated by cheetah conservation projects. Much is understood and misunderstood about these fascinating animals and this book has given me great insight into the perspective and daily struggles of a biologist. Books written like this are hard to come by; and the inclusion of field notes throughout helped to show how observations of cheetah behavior lead to hypotheses and conclusions.This is not; by any means; a consistently fun book to read. Though the pictures are beautiful; this book is not meant to entertain. What youll find after completing it; though; is a solid foundation of knowledge on this cat.
