The Plays of Martin Crimp: Making Theatre Strange

ebooks The Plays of Martin Crimp: Making Theatre Strange by Vicky Angelaki in Arts-Photography

Description

The book focuses on Martin Crimps plays; translations; adaptations and versions from 1985 to the present. It contends that Crimps is a theatre of radical defamiliarization and proposes that to understand how this materializes both textually and in performance we need to refresh our understanding of the term. The book therefore draws upon phenomenology to locate the intensity and efficacy of Crimps writing. Each chapter focuses on case studies contextualized in relation to other texts linked by their content so as to weave the inner narrative of Crimps theatre. Through an examination of the rich; ambiguous content and formal experimentation of Crimps work; the book proposes that defamiliarization in his plays serves to engage audiences in ideas relating to the commercialization of daily life; the artists consumption by the entertainment industry; the inherent violence in domestic environments; the restrictiveness of social class; and the understanding of a nations own identity through its encounter with the Other.

Within the pages of this book Ive been able to begin fully vetting my idea. Personally; I think the book also provides a nice selection and variety of additional resources to explore within the various chapters. Again; this is a good book to help you get started thinking about your potential business; consumers; and if youre really built to handle the job.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very resourcefulBy JamieAngela Wolfs book is a must read for anyone looking to get in the fashion industry. She includes a lot of valuable tips and resources and really opened my eyes about this industry.I am defiantly; thanks to Angela; taking a second look in whether this career path is really for me; especially since I live in California where it seems to be much more costly to start a small apparel business. (Come to find out its illegal to manufacture from your home in California). :(But for the ones who have the guts and thick skin this book is for you.9 of 9 people found the following review helpful.
