A TERRIFIC READ!By jwnewportCharles Bennett may be best remembered for his screenplays for Alfred Hitchcock; but the rest of his life was just as fascinating. His circle of friends was a Hollywood Whorsquo;s Who of the twentieth century; Cecil B. DeMille; Cary Grant; Charles Laughton; Vivien Leigh; Olivia de Havilland. The book is filled with entertaining anecdotes from his life as an actor; playwright; screenwriter; pilot; and spy. I was especially fascinated by his trip to William Randolph Hearstrsquo;s San Simeon; where his fellow guests included Charlie Chaplin; Clark Gable; Bette Davis and Errol Flynn. This book offers a first-hand glimpse into the glittering world of movie-making; as well as a reminder that ldquo;all that glitters is not gold.rdquo;3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Fascinating Book - A Hidden TreasureBy Carl BorackA very fascinating read. Much more than just about the Hitchcock relationship which is fascinating in and of itself; but it is about the history of U.K. actors in the 19th century; World War I and World War II in the world; and a look at how Hollywood evolved. A very unique book that should be read and enjoyed by many.
