This book had plenty of tips and tricks and colorful pictures that enhance the authors overall instruction. (this book can be read on a kindle e-reader like the paper white; but I would highly recommend against this as you would miss out on the detail the color pictures provide)The author provides detailed plans; cut lists and instructions for each project and after its all put together; he goes back and tells what he "would do different next time". You rarely see someone go back and "critique" themselves after completing a task. Well done!. All the projects submitted in this book are built with hand and power hand tools that most everyone already owns. There is no need to go out and buy an expensive jointer; table saw or planer when all you need is a drill; circular saw and jig saw! The one negative and thus a one star reduction for me anyway is that all measurements in the plans and cut lists are in mm and not in inches. For his next book; I would suggest the author incorporate both the imperial and metric system. After all most of us YANKS and BRITS are still old school where our yard sticks are concerned!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Practical as well as inspirationalBy Tracy GilpinA beautifully illustrated book that takes you through 13 woodworking projects for your home; step-by-step. Each chapter helps you create a piece of furniture or object (from a shelf or bookcase to a Wendy house). Illustrated guides as well as 3D models mean you can see the final product from any angle you choose; or you opt for a high-speed construction video of the project being built. The book is particularly appealing for parents because it allows them to include the children in various steps of the projects so yoursquo;re not only building a window seat or toy box; yoursquo;re also making memories and passing on a few skills; whether watching and passing tools; to helping with painting and sanding. If yoursquo;ve never attempted woodwork before; the chapter that explains tools and techniques is very helpful. Another helpful feature is the section for each project where the author describes the difficulties he had during his first construction of each project and what he would do differently the next time he did that particular project. This is a woodworking book that is not only practical; but inspirational too.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Woodworking for everyone - even me!By David tarrantIm vaguely aware that bookshelves etc dont just fall out of trees; but I was previously very intimidated at the thought of even trying to figure out which end of a hammer to hold and which end to hit with. That bad. But having read this book I feel not only inspired to give it a go but also that it is something I could do! A few tips and tricks have already helped with basic repairs around the house.I also enjoyed the photography - and of course it doesnt do any harm to have such lovely young models in a number of the pics! Its a book that we proudly have on our coffee table; and it attracts a lot of attention.I cant give a professional review on the standard of the woodworking involved; but all I know is that it does make it easy for people who struggle with even such things as putting up pictures... But at the same time I believe from friends who know what they are talking about that the technical standard of the book is excellent. So well done to the author; an excellent first book.
