Part good; part FRUSTRATING.By SnapdragonThere are two things I am going to review here- first the songs; and then the lay-out of the book. The songs are fine- all the traditional ones with a few obscure carols thrown in. Sometimes the timing of the chord changes is a little off; the lyrics are not what I am used to; and the spellings are also unexpected- "The First Nowell"? (Maybe that is original?)I like that the ukulele chord pictures are given- it really helps a beginner. Now for the lay-out... Ugh. Who proofread this book? The songs are organized in alphabetical order- not a bad way to go if you have songs that only take up one page. But there are many songs that require TWO pages. Logic and common sense would dictate that you never start a song on a right-hand page and then expect the musician to quit strumming so they could TURN THE PAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG!!! WHO DOES THIS???? Two-page songs should ALWAYS start on the left hand page so you have a two-page spread and no page turning. With computers these days; you should be able to handle such a simple task. Who is to blame for this? The author? The editor? The publisher? DUH; people; quit phoning it in and start thinking like a musician if you are going to publish a music book. I wont be buying music on-line anymore.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Well written - Nice range of songs - Nice priceBy Stephanie S.This is a thoughtfully written book of old traditional English carols and its offered at a great price too. After checking this book out from the library two or three times; I decided that Id better just buy it - I liked it that much. There are quite a few familiar carols to play right away and many more that are new to me. Likewise; as a 2nd-year beginner on the uke; there were a number of songs that I could jump right into and play; and many more that are beyond my current abilities. In other words; its a book that will still be useful even as my skills improve.
