The Selective Environment

DOC The Selective Environment by Dean Hawkes; with Jane McDonald; Koen Steemers in Arts-Photography

Description

This step-by-step technique reference introduces and thoroughly explores several styles of knitting that involve color/yarn changes to create intricate patterns and designs. With Colorwork for Adventurous Knitters; youll delve into exciting methods including striping; slipstitch; mosaic; stranded; and intarsia knitting and duplicate stitch and embroidery embellishment. While colorwork is commonly found in knitting projects; each colorwork knitting method requires skills that are difficult for someone to simply grasp on their own without careful guidance; which is just what this volume provides. Each section includes easy-to-follow; illustrated instructions; teaching all that is necessary to master the required knitting skills. Charts; diagrams; and graphs are also provided; and swatch exercises in each section give the reader a chance to try the skills. Sections end with three to five small projects. This volume is an inspiring addition to any knitterrsquo;s library.

It makes a excellent companion to the other thicker biographies written on Peckinpah and the DVD releases of his movies that have come out in the last few years. Fulwood is very intelligent in his reviews of Peckinpahs films and wonderfully all of the films are represented here. There are discussions on Peckinpahs films from his first- The Deadly Companions to his last- The Osterman Weekend. The movie recaps also have some excellent black and white photographs that accompany them.I really enjoyed the recaps written on Peckinpahs Westerns and which I very much enjoyed Fulwoods interpretations of them. I liked the discussion of one of my favorite off beat films of all time Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia and one of my favorite World War II films of all time Cross of Iron. You may not always agree with Fulwood but he writes very intelligently and very enjoyably.I think this is one of the best books written on Sam Peckinpah and his movies.Highly recommended!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
