"...By THE ***idiotchild...***I underatand and AGREE with the author regarding the LACK of a STANDARD for Percussion Notation. It seems that EVERYONE does it "Differently". As a percussionist myself; I find I must learn an entirely "NeW! Language" in order to join-in with (Almost) ANY "NeW!-to-*ME!*" organization who uses scripted music. Therefore; in MY composing efforts; I intend to USE the trail blazed by "Standardized Drumset Notation" adding elements of MY OWN when I go where the work is "Silent". (Perhaps; a compilation of "Best Practices" will "SOMEDAY" emerge from the "Percussion Community"...).*MY!* "BoTToM LiNE": GOOD Effort!...; -->INCOMPLETE! But! -- We "MuST!" Start SOMEWHERE. And; this effort is as good as any I have found to Date."PLaY ON!"; Every~[Percussionist]~One!; "Play ON!..."....1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A must for composers; arrangers; and engraversBy CustomerThere is nothing more daunting for a composer of jazz ensemble music than how to write the drum set part. Having looked at hundreds of big band drum set parts; I can tell you that standardization is sorely needed. That is what this book offers. It is written in a concise and clear way so that it can easily be used as a quick reference when needed. Having said that; I would urge the composer; arranger; or engraver to read through the book thoroughly first. Then keep it with the rest of your music notation reference books. If you are a composer/arranger/engraver of any style of music that utilizes a drum set then you must own this book!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Well Researched; Clearly PresentedBy M. LeeWeinbergs guide to standard notation is slowly (too slowly!) become the accepted standard for drumset notation. It presents a clear and consistent method for notation that works across a wide range of genres and technical demands. The fact that the default drum notation for both Finale and Sibelius follow Weinbergs guide argue strongly for its adoption as the standard. A whole generation of composers and arrangers are growing up using those programs as their primary platform for notation; and therefore are used to seeing Weinbergs notation as the standard.I highly; highly recommend this book.
