Too condensed in spots; which harms my will power (:By RickDeckardI believe Im going cross-eyed during some of the exercises where the left hand follows the exercising of the right hand. Fingering they prefer is essential for the exercises but the bass fingering numbers are popped under some of the notes inside a circle. I dont mind paying more for using more paper for a book that shows both left and right hands on separate staffs--for a book I will be using every day. I also really didnt appreciate the repeating of a single measure each time I play it. This is present even on the first page (via repeat signs).Shouldnt doing the hardest work (and what seems like the least rewarding; and the most tedious) be a little more expansively laid out for ease and speed?Other than that; having gone through half of the book in my first siting; I feel confident that these are tough; exacting and important exercises for somebody who wants to be less sloppy and find more strength and agility. Im very happy with that if I dont get a headache every time I try to sort it all out. I will be using this along with other books including Czerny and Hanon.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. FantasicBy H. DoughertyAnother great job of editing by Hinson. Yes you will see a few of the well-known authors of finger exercises such as Hanon and Czerny; but you will also find people like Clara Schumanns father Wieck.... Its a fresh take on technique for the person who thinks about theory as well as finger movement.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent exercises; but too condensed; should have all notes in all keys listed out like HanonBy Joyce WanI am very pleased with all the various exercises; which are exactly the areas I need to start working on. However; I am very disappointed with this edition and find it very discouraging. I honestly believe many customers; who need to work with skills in this book; would feel the same way. In far too many places the exercises are too condensed with simple phrase like:"Transpose to All Keys";"Continue Pattern Upward through all keys""Continue Upward on White Keys until.......""Continue Upward by half steps through all keys""Continue upward by half steps""Continue upward by half steps through one octave"The targeted users are basically trying to transition from intermediate to early advanced; so they still need all the notes to be written out. Not many are comfortable with easy transposing to all keys off their heads or off their finger tips. Such skills; among many other more advanced skills; are exactly what they need to work on!!!Can the publisher consider to have a second edition; to have all notes across all keys to be all written out; like a Hanon or the Brown Scale Book? I am sure this new edition will be welcomed by many users of this first edition! I hope in the near future; we will have such a new edition with all notes across all keys all written out.Cardboard packaging for both books; without shrink wrap; had corners of both brand new books damaged during transit. should consider to switch back to shrink wrap then in a box like they did previously; when the books arrived in perfect condition.
