Henrik Ibsen (20th March; 1828 ndash; 23rd May; 1906) is often referred to as the father of realism and ranked just below Shakespeare as Europersquo;s greatest ever playwright especially as his plays are performed most frequently throughout the world after Shakespearersquo;s. He was Norwegian and although set his plays in Norway; he wrote them in Danish and lived most of his professional life in Italy and Germany. His affect on the theatre is still evident today and shapes the distinction of plays being art as opposed to entertainment since he broke down all previous traditions and explored issues; developed characterisation; revealed uncomfortable truths; challenged assumptions and brokedown facades in ourselves as well as society. These factors are clearly demonstrated in the Pillars of Society; a contemporary drama set in a small Norwegian coastal town dominated by shipbuilder Karsten Bernick who is planning a railway to connect the town to the main line and a tract of land he has been secretly buying. His past comes crashing in on him by the return of his brother in law who had gone to America to take the blame for Bernick stealing family business money and having an affair with an actress and the return of the love of his life who he had rejected for his current wealthy wife. Ibsen skilfully builds on these characters to provide a gripping tragedy underlining the ways of the rich and corrupt and Ibsenrsquo;s conclusions in this play were a cause of great controversy and much surprise.

If you already have some Hazel Soan materials; theres not much new here; if you dont; this might be a good choice as a sort of synopsis of much of her other stuff - although the smaller format is not as nice to look at as the larger size books (this is more or less half the size of regular art books).40 of 40 people found the following review helpful. Extremely elementary watercolour introductory guideBy Parka[[VIDEOID:mo2B72C6PY130MZ]]Im a fan of Hazel Soans watercolour paintings which is why I decided to check out her latest book Learn Watercolour Quickly.I got off to a bad start at the introduction where it says that you can read this book in about 30 minutes. That should give you an idea about how much text and information there are in this 112-page A5-sized hardcover. This book is actually a very condensed introductory guide that explains what watercolour is. Every topic or technique is just given a one paragraph treatment. Then theres either one or two pictures of some effects (e.g. splatter; wet on wet); followed by a finished painted example. The steps towards creating the final painting is missing. The information is useful; yes; but they are too short and lacking in depth. I feel that beginners will find it more helpful if there were more hands-on tutorials -- there are only two extremely brief step-by-step demonstrations. At the end of the book; I suppose youll know the theory of the various techniques but most likely you wont know how to use them well in practice; or in combination to finish a simple painting.Yes; I think you can learn some basic watercolour techniques quickly; but definitely not with this book. To learn watercolour so quickly might end up frustrating you instead. For 30 minutes; thats just enough time to learn one of the many techniques. Learn Watercolour Quickly is an introductory guide that could be better with techniques more elaborately demonstrated. For beginners; I would recommend the more hands-on and practical Watercolour for the Absolute Beginner instead; at around the same price of Hazel Soans book. Or go for The Watercolor Artists Bible by Marylin Scott or The Watercolor Bible: Painting Tips and Techniques for the Beginner by Joe Garcia.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. Hazel Soan is a wonderful skilled watercolour artistBy EricLeslieThis little book takes the lessons of technique from Hazel Soans first book; which appear at the end of each chapter and collects them in one place - into this little gem "Learn Watercolour Quickly". Hazel Soan is a wonderful skilled watercolour artist. Her classic methods and wonderful subjects (ranging from African elephants and Cheetahs to London scenes and Italian gardens) give a wide range of practice. Excellent!
