Oliver Stones Movie Home CompanionBy CustomerThe screenplay is superb; but what is even better are the hundreds of critical essays and articles included in the book; each of which makes for jaw-dropping; eye-opening reading.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This book was an excellent choiceBy LittlewingsAlthough; I did not read it personally (I purchased it as a gift); the lady I gave it to loved it. She has always been fascinated with the JFK and when I talked to her after Christmas; she spent an hour just telling me all about the book and how interesting it was.I really happy that my selection was such a big hit.LInda1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Complaints are justified-unfortunatelyBy Just the Facts.Unfortunately outdated perhaps? While Oliver Stone made a magical rumor and supposition film believable with the help of master filmography and the use of very talented actors; the internet availability of assassination material tends to discredit this fine work. The late John Candy; a wonderful actor and comedian; was chosen to play the part of scumbag New Orleans lawyer Dean Andrews-its an incredible performance. However; reading Deans testimony in the Warren report(its in volume 9-I think)the grand jury transcripts and the actual trial one senses that Candys great performance is describing a totally different person. Dean lied over and over again to the Commission and since his lies fit the predetermined outcome they let it slide. He was of course convicted of perjury in Orleans Parrish. To base a conclusion on a truly dishonest man and convicted purger that business man Clay Shaw was the notorious Clay Bertrand; with the help of a sad drunk(again played masterfully by actor Jack Lemon) shows massive irresponsibility and slander. However; it made a great story! As much as I hate to say it this screenplay and movie needs a disclaimer proclaiming parts of it are based on pure speculation; and nothing more.Mr Shaws daughter wrote several blistering; rant filled articles peppered with proclamations of her fathers misplaced connection to the assassination. I doubt that Mr. Stone ever read them-he should have as I believe her. What a travesty just to make a movie. The wonderful performance of veteran actor Donald Southerland as he mimicked (I guess) CIA spook Fletcher Prouty leaves the uninformed movie goer convinced this movie is the truth and nothing but the truth. Its not as even Mr Prouty relates in his own book about the CIA and the assassination.Too bad so sad as I really liked this screenplay and movie.
