Bruce is THE MAN when it comes to recording.By Karl WinklerReading this book is like getting a glimpse into the Whos Who of recording; album production and hitmaking in the 1960s; 70s and 80s; at the very least. Sure; it is not fine literature; but Bruce does a good job of getting the stories across; warts and all. His love for the craft; and his wife Bea; is evident throughout. Each album mentioned in the book is a classic; and he doesnt even nearly mention all the projects he has worked on over the decades. His humility and humanity come through in spades. Heres a perfect example of someone who just wanted to do a particular thing and stuck with it through thick and thin until he "made it". And Make It he did.Terrific read for anyone in the music or recording business.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. a must read for anyone interested in musicBy ultravioletraeThis is one of the most inspiring books on music I have ever read. Bruce Swedien is a true creative genius and I will never listen to music the same way again. His concepts and ideas in regard to sound and sonic space are truly mind blowing. This is simply a MUST READ book. Its been a real eye opener to go back and listen to some of his legendary recordings with these revelations in mind. The book is probably one of the best music lessons Ive ever had. If you are hesitating on this purchase; DONT! You wont regret it. Its no accident that the worlds best selling music was recorded and mixed by Bruce Swedien.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Well..By Matt RanckA very talented; gifted engineer: a very mediocre writer. About a quarter of the book is a good; informative read. The remainder is repetition (an ok thing for music; not so much for writing) and name dropping(legitimate associates yes but; it wears thin) sans engaging backstories. Overpriced.
