Description

Amid the splendours and pretensions of the royal court; the Earl of Rochester impresses Charles II with his irreverence and plain speech. So much so; that the monarch gives him the task of creating a lsquo;ministry of pleasure; thus liberating him to tour the country in search of all manner of delights.Featuring some of Rochesters most infamous poems; The Ministry of Pleasure opened at the Latchmere Theatre; London in June 2004.

Ned Rorems ego is off the chart. He is aware that he is gorgeous; and others are not sky to mention it either. According to him his French is as fluent as if he learned it at childbirth after only speaking it for a year. But; for all his glory; he hasnt managed to get an apartment of his own in Paris. During the first 50 pages or so that I read; it was impossible to determine just exactly where he stored his clothes. Perhaps my biggest beef about the book is that there are constant long phrases in French with no translation - which makes the native English speaker who does not speak French feel that he or she is missing half of whats going on. I imagine I will pick up the book again - it is an interesting view of Paris in the Fifties when it was considered washed up as a center of creativity. Moreover; the scene of author talking with an aging Jean Cocteau in Cocteaus bedroom; while Cocteat relaxes in a gorgeous bathrobe is enough to make me know this is a book I will return to when I have more patience.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Well written but disgusting.By KtinaWell written but disgusting. I quit at the point where he describes; with apparent relish; his cruelty to animals as a child...includes killing a horse.
