This book is kinda doomed.By MarkThe only way anyone buys this book online is by accident after missing the reviews that tell what the book really is.This book is a collection of sketches from life-drawing classes. Basically; they are what happened to sketches in life-drawing classes from a long; long time ago (at least one of them is dated "1917") and some of them like the ones on the cover are very; very good. Most of them; however; are *NOT* very good; or even sprinkled with good. Some of the sketches here are; in fact; either just plain bad or so early on in the students instruction that you could probably do better yourself blindfolded and holding the charcoal in your teeth; and this is the nature of the books dilemma: if you need to practice figure drawing from a book outside of a life-drawing class; why would you pick a book of art-students work when you could buy the same book in the same series from the same company to study the drawings of Holbein; Rembrant; Ingres; Da Vinci; Singer-Sargent; etc; etc. ad infinitum?Seriously. Maybe forty-percent of the sketches (twenty drawings) in this book are worth anything (and a few of those are stellar); but the rest could have been done by children. The book is dirt cheap; but there will be times when you will wonder why you didnt buy something else.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
