ePub Up in Lights: The Memoirs of a 1920s Chorus Girl (Ordinary Lives) by Marjorie Graham in Arts-Photography

Description

Passionate; calculating; only sometimes honourable but always honest; Celestine is one of the great female characters in literature. Rhoda Koenig in The Sunday Times The Diary of a Chambermaid was written as a satire of Parisian society in the wake of the Dreyfus Affair.Mirbeau brings a journalists analytical eye to Celestines adventures as she loses her innocence and becomes as corrupt and depraved as the men who exploited her. Since its publication in 1900 it has never ceased to shock and fascinate its readers and has been made into a film by Jean Renoir in 1946 and Luis Bunuel in 1964.

Great guideBy ReaderWriterReally insightful and helpful. Doesnt lace the books with examples of plays youve never seen; but rather gives broader strokes ideas on how to get started; how to structure; etc. The writing is lovely.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Must Have for Playwrights; and Screenwriters TooBy Gordon S. BrooksI have read a lot of books on screenwriting; but only one on writing plays; well; at least only one all the way through. I borrowed this book from the library and had to have a copy of my own. Its the first book thats actually made me feel like the author could really send me in the right direction; Although its specifically for the playwright; it has a lot to say on structure that screenwriters and novelists would be wise to heed.
